Investigator (2-year Term, October 1, 2010 to September 30, 2012)

RECA - Background
RECA is an independent, non-government agency, responsible for regulating real estate, mortgage broker and real estate appraisal professionals under the Real Estate Act of Alberta. This position is responsible for conducting investigations into complaints relating to allegations of misconduct by industry members.

Investigator’s Role
Reporting to the Director of Audit and Investigations through the Investigations Coordinator, the successful candidate may have:

  • Experience in the real estate appraisal, real estate or mortgage brokering industries and/or conducting business practice investigations
  • Excellent communication, judgment and analytical skills
  • Computer literacy and effective file management

This is a two year contract salaried (negotiable) position with compensation for travel and the provision of workplace tools.

What is Audit & Investigations?
RECA investigates complaints against industry members to determine whether there has been conduct which conflicts with the Real Estate Act, is a risk to the public or fails to meet the professional standards set out in the Real Estate Act Rules and Bylaws. Investigators are tasked with the responsibility of conducting impartial and carefully documented investigations to support decisions by the executive director and a Hearing Panel charged with administering the Real Estate Act.

Investigators will encounter a wide range of contracts, documents and situations which will challenge their abilities to conduct effective interviews and compile definitive evidence to report to the executive director.

RECA’s audit program encourages legislative compliance through proactive audits aimed at educating and assisting industry members with understanding the Real Estate Act, Rules and Regulations.
